Is it normal to enjoy cutting?

I am in NO WAY depressed, I’m very happy. I just have a habit of cutting, and I like how it feels.

    I enjoy cutting too.

    Onions, cucumbers, celery, pizza.

No, it's not normal, and that is coming from someone who used to actively cut on a daily basis. I used to enjoy it and would even get happy from the feeling of adrenaline I'd get from it, like an addiction. I ended up seeking help and I have been cut-free for almost 2 years now.

There is such a thing as “edge play”. It’s controversial as it involves self harm usually before/during/after sex. Its not normal, but as long as you dont intend to slit your throat or jump off a bridge, do as you like.

Hold Up! We have two totally different definitions of "edge play". I always thought "edge play" was bringing yourself or another to the "edge" of an orgasm then stopping before you or they cum, over and over before finally allowing yourself to finally reach the big O.

Youre thinking of “edging” (google it)... I dont condone edge play because I dont condine self harm. But, I used to cut when I was 13-16. I would read fictional stories about people getting hurt and would get a little horny and want to simulate the pain (by cutting). Now, I’ve learned that im just into edge play, but dont do it often.

Ive never met someone older than 18 that does that. Stop it. Its silly. Youre gonna have scars that are gonna be hard to explain.

Until my early 30s I was married to someone who did it. Very difficult to deal with, and even worse was her overall darkness and unpredictability. Hey parents out there: this is what happens if you don't talk to your sons about girls and the power they can wield - and talk to your daughters about things that threaten their feelings of self-worth, and the incomprehensible value of their bodies.

I feel like all the disturbed people from my highschool that cut eventually switched to hard drugs. Drugs feel better.

Sorry to hear that about your ex wife. Hope she finds peace.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm not in touch with her but she has a family now and a good job. I'm under the impression she is doing well. I'll add that she had stopped self harming for some time before we split up.

I think the problems run deeper than that, and "silly" isn't the word I would use. This is quite a serious problem.

Your kidding right mate! I don't think your taking this seriously enough. I don't know where you went to middle school, but I definently didn't see kids doing it a mine.

Enjoying self-harm is not normal. A doctor would refer you to a mental health professional if he saw cuts on your arm. Probably better to seek out help on your own before then

Seems like a bad habit, maybe consider breaking it. If it's a sexual thing, I won't judge, but same advice applies. Just be responsible; treat any injuries and don't go too far.

There are probably safer things out there that are also enjoyable.

well if you are cutting things that are meant to be cut then you are in good condition pal. but if you were to cut something which is not meant for that then i suggest you consult a psychiatrist. haha lol.

You are definently depressed or have an anxiety disorder. You are in denial because you want to ignore your problems. The properly functioning human body should NOT EVER enjoy cutting or harming themselves. Trust me mate, something is wrong with you mentally and you need professional help. I harmed myself on the regular early on in my high school years and if you would have asked me I would have said I was not depressed at all. But it got out of hand and one time my parents got me and took me to a professional therapist. I insisted I was fine but several dozen therapy sessions later I was in the light. And I saw the problems with how I thought and behaved. You need a professional opinion mate this is a dark path to go down, especially if you have yourself somehow convinced it's fine.

OP could just be a masochist. Some are into cutting. As long as you treat your wounds and don't go too far, it's perfectly fine.

Cutting is very popular among people with Borderline personality disorder.

Are you some how suggesting he shouldnt be concerned about this? I have had a past with cutting and
other means of self harm and this is nothing to pass off like that.

Well, thank you, but there are plenty of folks who would be to differ with you on that point.

I actually think that it would serve OP, and anyone else who is into cutting, well to seek out some sort of therapy. I don't think cutting is a good thing.
