Is it normal to enjoy being a loner?

This is a relatively open-ended question. I'm a loner and I actually enjoy it. I can do what I want, when I want, without worrying about how others feel or what others think. I'm socially awkward and never feel pressure to keep a conversation going by being alone. There are just so many advantages to being alone, but perhaps there are advantages to constantly being around people as well. I'm just curious as to how you would describe yourself as far as your friendships, or lack thereof, go.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Being lonely and being in solitude are two different things. Yes, it's normal to enjoy solitude.

  • I wish you could vote in two categories here - I'm a loner & love it nearly all of the time. Just occasionally it gets me down a bit.

  • I'm a loner and it depresses me, but I'm coming to terms with it. I think I've began to like my own company, a bit too much.
    I also have acquaintances.
Being by myself for so long has made me even more socially awkward.

  • I'm an extreme ambivert. I don't talk to people for days then go crazy for several hours before returning to my cave. It makes for some interesting times.

  • I wouldn't call myself a "loner". I consider myself being introverted and I often prefer being alone, but still, I enjoy doing stuff with friends, going to parties etc.
