Is it normal to eat your cat when it dies?

I've heard that a lot of people do this, and my cat is getting really old and tender, and I was starting to plan the funeral when I thought "would it taste any good fried?". So I was wondering if I should do this? or should I boil it?

Is It Normal?

  • Welll, I wouldn't do it. Also, I had to dissect a cat in anatomy this last semester and let me tell you, they're not that meaty. Especially since your cat is old. I doubt there'd be much to eat. Some in my class had some scrawny cats and it just wouldn't seem to be worth to cook. Mine on the other hand was a bit larger than the other cats, however, it just contained a LOT more fat. You're better off with some chicken.

  • WTF, no one does that! I know people from all over the world and none of them have ever said anything about eating their cats after they die. Someone must be trolling you. Do what normal people do and bury him/her, maybe even have a mini-funeral.

  • Ehm no sorry. What if you grew "old and tender" and died and your cat ATE YOU? I mean she could, doesn't mean its right! You can eat your cat, but honestly, don't you love your cat? If my mom died, i wouldn't even be able to cook her, nonetheless eat her! Its just morally incorrrect, sorry!

  • Is that even safe? If the cat has been dead a while, or died of disease, I'd think twice before putting it in my mouth.

And no, a lot of people do NOT do this, at least not in Western culture. Someone's bin messin' wit chu!

  • Yes, it's completely normal. If you don't eat the body or make something out of its fur, then you are just wasting nature's most beautiful creation.
My best friend's cat died last week and I told her that she had to do something with it, at first she thought it was cruel but I convinced her that it's normal.

  • 'my cat is getting really old and tender'
I though it was generally, the younger the meat, the more tender?

Anyway, I don't really have any moral opinions against you eating your cat, however, I reckon there may be laws against it (I know there are in the UK), so maybe it's not such a good idea.

    • Why is it illegal to eat your cat in the UK? How is it different to eating other kinds of meat? (I'm a vegetarian, but I find rules like that a little funny)

      • Because according to UK law, cats are domesticated and therefore are covered under the Animal Welfare Act.

I eat meat, and honestly, I do find it to be showing double standards really. To be honest, I would eat cat meat if it was legal, as I don't see how it's different to cow/pig/sheep meat on principle, as people keep livestock as pets sometimes!

        • Excellent...though I don't think that eating meat is cool in any way! It's another life!

          • I do get where you're coming from. My brother is a vegetarian and says that to me.
All I can say is that in my opinion, we have canines, therefore we are designed to eat meat, if we so choose! But I respect other people's decisions! :)

  • Go ahead and eat an old cat that dies from some sickness and when you recover, come back and tell us what it was like. Idiot, if you're going to eat a damn cat, eat one that's young and healthy!

  • Serve it up for Christmas dinner. Save some time and money.

  • What the fuck?! Of course, its not normal.
Of course, you shouldn't do it.
There's no way this is healthy.
How would you be honoring the years you spent with that cat? What could it/you possibly symbolize by doing this?

  • I've thought of the same thing but I don't know if that would be safe so I recommend against it.

  • OMG, that is disgusting. You can't eat your cat. I mean, you've had it for years and then it dies and you want to eat it? Poor kitty. It should rest in peace. (Not in pieces).

  • If this should be funny I have to say it is NOT.

  • If you eat meat there is no difference between eating a cow and eating your cat. At least it hasnt been farmed in a tiny filthy cage where it was unable to move, plus if it dies a natural death at least your not causing it to die a painfull torturous death. A few of you need to google Speciesism.
