It's the fluoride in the toothpaste that can be toxic. Children that swallow to much fluoridated toothpaste while their permanent teeth are forming end up with whiteish to brown spotted permanent teeth. To much fluoride is not good. If you must eat it, get the children's stuff with no fluoride.
