Is it normal to eat raw hamburger meat from the package?

My friend eats raw hamburger meat from the package. They don't eat the whole thing, just a few pinches of meat from the top, but still. I don't know anyone else who eats raw meat. The closest thing I can think of is sushi???

    No and very dangerous because ground beef can contain E. coli which can kill you. Beef can be eaten raw, which is called beef tartare, but it has to be very fresh, chopped and prepared very carefully with lemon to kill bacteria.

    My grandfather used to eat raw ground beef with onions. Ewww...

    But he lived to be 87.
