    Yes it does matter if OP wants his friend to know this important information about him.

        Well of course it shouldn't matter, but I can understand OP wanting to know the friend's attitude to it

          That's true, and it could always be a good first step to coming out to a close, (ttusted?) friend...

          I do agree with your post though about just telling her tho
