Is it normal to drink coffee through a straw?
I don't like the coffee going on my teeth so I use a straw but always feel a bit of a fool.

Coffee destroys tooth enamel. So, by using a straw you would be protecting your teeth. Just a word of caution: if the coffee is hot wait awhile before sticking your straw in it. The heat can melt the plastic, which isn't healthy. Or, you can order reusable metal straws.
As long as it's not very hot coffee (unless you have a high quality straw that is not going to melt / leech plastic into your drink). Warm coffee is fine. I think it's normal to want not to stain your teeth. There is lots of pressure in "our culture" to have white teeth.
