I don't think it's so much the alcohol in a good drink, be it a 15 year old scotch, a fine wine or a good beer. It's about enjoying something you enjoy drinking. They taste good.
I don't know many people who drink a us$160.00 of scotch to get drunk on.
IIN to drink, alone, 12 beers while playing Call of Duty Black ops 3?

Me either, anyone who binge drinks high-quality scotch, like you're describing, either has deep pockets or needs to get his priorities straight.
Can't it be both?
I buy expensive liquors all the time and I want to taste them and get drunk off them. Getting drunk off an expensive liquor is a high in itself.
