Yes, it is normal to manage things better once you've had a drink - why do you think people drink so much on nights out? It's to give them a confidence boost. Trust me, I've not had the best year either and at times have just felt like having a drink to try and numb negative emotions, but I KNOW this will only end up adding to my problems. It's good that you've recognised you don't want to develop a problem - you know what to do from here. Stay strong and don't give yourself another problem in the form of alcohol addiction - please. It's such a massive waste of life.
