Is it normal to drink alcohol to deal with things better?

  • Alcohol does make a neat temporary escape, doesn't it? That's the problem. If it didn't, nobody would bother with it. It's easy to sit here and say you shouldn't do it or that it'll make things worse in the long run (it most likely will) but that doesn't exactly help.

You do have something quite positive, though - you know what you're escaping from. You know what you want. You said it clearly right up there in the question.

Christmas isn't a great time to be alone. I don't think anyone would blame you for a little escapism. But New Year's Day is just around the corner. Why not treat it as a new start? Make resolutions. Make an action plan for getting what you want in life. You commented on your positive attributes (also a good way of thinking, when going about meeting someone). You sound like everything could work out just fine for you, given the right opportunity. So it's up to you to go out and make that opportunity.
