Is it normal to do stupid things when no-one is around....

Somtimes i spontaniously sing somthing completly ridiculous and prance about the kitchen for no apparant reason, maybe try and dance with my dog or talk to it like a person, or just pull wild faces in the mirror, its quite entertaining trying to embarress myself.

I even do it in elevators. I like the tension of not knowing if the door is going to open at an unexpected floor and a crowd of people see me doing the monkey face.

Had a couple of close calls and, well, there was that one time they put me under psychiatric evaluation in the hospital with bars on the windows.

You know they do have cameras in those elevators. It's probably safe to say they have witnessed the monkey dance ;)

I actually have looked for cameras in elevators and made affronted faces in directions they may be. I genuinely have. I swear this is true. The world is making me crazy!

Years ago, when I was working strange hours, I used to food shop at about 3am and have breakfast before I went to bed. There's never anyone much in the supermarket at that time and, without knowing why I did it, I picked up the eggs and said in a bad Italian accent, "Hey! You boysa coming wid me. I'ma gonna cracka your skulls together".

And, yeah, the person cleaning the floors had edged up right behind me and heard the whole thing.

I am known for having monological dialogues in and out of the house, performed in different accents or voices, with different objects or just facial expressions. Friends will sometimes ask for an encore, but that's not how it works. Haha

You, Spacey, CoverYourEars, and nobodyspecial had pretty much covered the silly stuff I do. :)

I do that one too, especially with the accents. I also do the thing with two voices where one says something and the other interjects what you actually mean. You could say it's a shameless rip-off of Tim Minchin's "Angry (Feet)" but I was doing it before him, and mine is a bit different. I really like his, though. It makes me laugh like a drain.

No-one's around, so you aren't really embarrassing yourself.
Embarrassing yourself would be doing it in public.

Very hard to do indeed, although I have tried hard many times, it "is" good to release your inner self here and there...

I think we all do stupid things when no one else is around, and I'd love to find the one person who can say they have never done a single ridiculous thing when no one else was looking. You know what would be a good show? If we put hidden cameras around in rooms where people think they are alone :D

totally normal. when you're alone you should feel free to do whatever you want, including stupid things;)

It's perfectly normal. When no one is looking I do stuff that I would never do in public.

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Yep.. sometimes! I pick my nose, scratch my bum.. make weird noises to the cats, stare at myself in the mirror... we're all crazy apes. How old until it becomes innappropriate? I mean.. a 22 year old person doing it is fine, but what about when you're 60?

Or a hundred and fifty like Sibelius himself. I bet he did all those things. I hope he did, anyway. I like the idea of a Finn being normal. The Finns are pretty great. I know the idea of American conservatism is pretty bad to you, as is Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik. You especially seem to have a problem with the Russians. Who'd have thought? It's not like they're next door, or anything like that. :O

No one knows this, but when I'm alone I like to make interpretive moves to accompany my burps. I'd be absolutely mortified if anyone ever caught me doing this. Who knows maybe the better-behaved people are in public the weirder they become behind closed doors? I think on the whole having these kinds of outlets helps to keep people relatively sane and society functioning (relatively well).

I do weird stuff when I'm at home as well. But then again, I do have 'moments' when that weird side of me that I desperately try to hide from the public manages to slip out. :p

But yeah, I think its normal. I guess its better to act weird in the privacy of your own home, rather than in public.
