Is it normal to dislike your own name?

I'm not a big fan of my own name; i don't necessarily have a better alternative, and I do acknowledge that it's MY name. It's not a celeb bullshit name either like "Audio Science"(sorry btw if that's your name).
Also, my middle name is my grandpa's name reversed and then with one extra letter added (not kidding, that's how my mother came up with the idea, cuz a different relative already has my grandpa's name as their middle name), which is way too fucking convoluted.
I'm not really planning on a name-change anytime soon, but I just don't really like getting called by my standard name. That weird?

Would you resist the name 'Willie Stroker'?

My name sounds foreign to me. I hate saying it and I hate hearing it. I don't really hate my name though. I used to way back when I was in school because teachers would always butcher it. Almost no one spells it right. It doesn't "feel" like it's MY name. But, like you said, I don't have a better idea or a plan to change it. I have no clue what I'd name myself and I have thought about it quite a lot.

I don't like my name sometimes. It was a common name many years ago but by the 80's no one was naming their kids this name anymore.

If it makes you feel better my mom named me after the person my dad cheated on her with. He didnt think she would find out. And after hearing my name he said " Iv never met a ugly Heather".

Would you go as far as to change it?

I hate my birthname with a passion so I changed it 40 years ago.

My name is a less common spelling of a really common name, so whenever I tell people their first inclination is to spell it the more common way. There are at least a few semi-official documents that have my name misspelled, which probably isn't good but I think it's funny so I'm fine with it

That's a good way to handle that

I sorta like my first name even though my parents gave me an Arabic name. But at the same time I've hated it a little bit.

I've never liked mine, although that's partly due to it being given to me for a particularly stupid reason. I'm named after a rather well known fictional figure and it's not fun.

Oh, that sucks. I think I read about how Robin Williams named his kid Zelda? If it's anything like that, I can somewhat imagine your struggle.

I like my name and I'm grateful my parents gave me a more international name and didn't give me a typical slav name.

First impressions are important and prejudice exists. If you're trying to get a job in a foreign country, you speak the language well, have good manners and an international name - you're nailed 80 percent of that interview.

I know, sounds silly coming from me... the slav guy who's a car dealership manager and even started a business, buys old cars and won't shut up about premium whiskey, but I had my fair share of job hopping and denials after university and being promoted to manager was just pure luck. Having a good, western name helps!

I can imagine how a Western name would help. There's many biases like that, unfortunately.

      Edit: congratz being promoted dude!
