Is it normal to dislike the way my twin sister smells?

I'm a girl with a twin sister who I'm very close with. But she smells. It's not in the "bad hygiene" way. She doesn't smell like sweat or foot fungus or whatever... I genuinely think it's just her normal physical-body smell. (Almost everything has some kind of smell if it's a physical thing.) But I really hate it - it makes me almost nauseous... I can't hug her for very long.

To be fair, this isn't exclusive to my sister - I don't generally enjoy the smell of anyone else - but she's the one I've been the most physically close to besides my mom.

I feel bad. I don't want her to find out and feel self-conscious. Is it normal to feel so repelled by someone's totally benign smell?

Could it be food choices, some people pass smells through their pores, like garlic and cumin or curry and other foods and spices. Sometimes it smells nothing like the original spice just gross.

Sounds like it’s a sensory issue type thing. Do you have autism or something like that?

    • No, I don't have autism. And I don't think I have a sensory issue but maybe I just don't know.

Yes it is totally normal to hate the smell of others to be honest, usually if this was me I would back away if the person let say has a bad smell I cannot stand horrible smells coming out of people. Yes to a certain extent I highly agree with your whole statement and therefore that would be the primary reason why I would pass your post down as normal. ( But this is just my opinion I am sure other people would have different opinion. )

Wear a facemask and maintain social distancing around her.

It helps to drink lots of water (2.7 liters, or slightly less than 3 quarts) as well as soap up twice when you have a shower.

No. I typically like the way people smell naturally.
