I agree with LtDan. All of those people seem pretty bleh from the sound of it.
The ex was a complete douche bag(aren't they always)
The girl was pretty dumb for choosing you then choosing him just because of what happened on facebook. even after the ex did all those terrible things to her.
(no offense to her. Im sure she is a wonderful person but better decisions have been made)
your friends, while they may not have meant to, acted like 5-year olds and completely fucked up your relationship.

The saying, "there are plenty of fish in the sea" applies to friends too. especially friends. It's incredibly easy to meet nice people who will stick up for you and be your friend.
And if you can kick that guys ass then DO IT!! I hate, WITH A PASSION, men who mistreat women like that. It's disgusting and he deserves to know what it feels like to be abused. In any other case I would say challenge him to a gentleman's fight like a real man should do. But he crossed the line. get a group together and jump his ass.
