Is it normal to dislike jehovah's witnesses?

For 10 long years I was part of the religion known as the Jehovah's Witnesses. It's unbelievable today to think that someone like me was ever part of such a thing, but it was true.

Let me begin. If this gets too long, don't read and just answer the question or rant about the religion.

I used to be a Jehovah's Witness, preaching door-to-door like fruit flies in people's faces. It was supposed to be an enjoyable experience, that is, to preach to other lost human beings about the "truth." But I didn't find it pleasant. I found it abhorrent to have to wake up early every day and pester others with something I myself had doubts about. This eventually led to a sloth in preaching and my eventual drop in rank from a non-baptized preacher to just a spectator at the kingdom hall meetings. It was a relief. But many of my friends and family were not so happy.

I left the religion for a while, but I still thought it was the true religion, that is, only recently. Now I know it's just like all other Christian denominations/cults. Here are two reasons:

The Jehovah's Witnesses, like all other religions, are authoritative and dogmatic with their so-called doctrines. Supposedly these laws are for the well-being of one's self, but if that were true then why are they not embraced by scholars and people of truth?

Jehovah Witness: Because Satan has them under his reign!!!11!

Me: That is the same excuse you have used for people who do not embrace the religion.

And lastly, like all other religions, the Jehovah's Witnesses hide behind the F-word, Faith. Faith is the absent-minded belief in something that does not have proof. I just can't have faith. I can't repress my God-given reason and logic to believe something I know is probably false. Plus, they believe in the bible, a book I find, like Albert Einstein, respectable but childish.

So now I'm a free 18-year-old Deist happy to know the truth about the "truth" and to be saved from all other religions. The only good thing the Jehovah's Witnesses ever did for me was save me from false religion, but apparently they were no exception.

So what do you think. Is it normal for me to dislike Jehovah's Witnesses? I dislike them, but I respect them.

Is It Normal?

  • They're annoying, but I really respect them for living out their beliefs. It's more than most religious people do.

  • I got attacked by a drive by Jehovah man! A silver van pulls up along side of me at the bus stop and a guy tosses something at me. I look down to see it was the Watch tower. A god damn drive by man!

  • I don't respect them, they have discriminatory ideals and are willing to let their children die if they need a transfusion in the name of superstition. I don't hate them, though, I pity them.

    • Actually, the bible clearly states not to consume blood., If your doctor told you to stop consuming alcohol, that it would eventually kill you, would you hook yourself up to an iv drip full of whiskey? No, you wouldn't. That's what taking blood transfusions are like. Also, there are many health risks that come with the transfusions. You could get the wrong blood, putting you in a worse situation then before, and all other types of things may happen due to human error. But, there are many alternatives to blood transfusion. If you'd listen instead of shouting 'No, you're wrong! You're bad!', you'd probably know this. It's actually no secret. Ask any doctor 'Is there any alternatives to having a blood transfusion?' and they'll tell you, ';Yes, of course.'. So, yeah.

      • I consider the bible a collection of myths and fairy tales. So I find your response irrelevant. Also you compare the bible to a doctor, I trust a doctor more than the bible.

      • Oh Karina, eating blood because you want to and taking blood as a means of saving a God-given life are 2 very different things. How can the symbol of life (blood) be more important than the life itself? That's like saying you value your wedding ring more than your marriage. The ring is just a symbol, but the marriage is much more important. There is much more to the blood issue than Witnesses care to admit.

      • The Bible is not a universal human set of rules. It's a man-made book for people who follow Christianity.

      • Transfusions save lives, infusing alcohol doesn't. The bible hasn't been proven to be written or inspired by a superior being, therefore, I pity you if you bleed to death.

  • I don't care for them either. This one elderly couple comes to our house atleast once a year. They remember our names. I must say though, this couple isn't pushy. They just say hi and hand you the Watch Tower. No bible thumping. Others though have put their foot in the way when I say no thanks and try to shut the door. I'm glad my dog came when she did. I was actually scared that time.

When I was young and stupid I tried a couple of meetings with my boyfriend. I was trying to impress him. Stupid of me. I did about 6 meetings at his house. They could never really answer my questions to my satisfaction. They got upset with me. Needless to say I left. Broke up with my boyfriend. Unfortunatly I still had to see him at work. Later he married "one of his kind" as he put it. I am not for religions at all all they do is divide people. And we do that enough on our own.

  • I worked with Jehovah's Witness nurses. They did not observe Xmas but they would not cover Xmas Day for the nurses that did observe. Strange religion.

  • I don't dislike them, I just think they're misguided thickos. If I was brought up by them and indoctrinated then I'd probably really dislike them.

  • I like them. They're kind and courteous, and what they say make sense. They're the best religion I've ever had the pleasure of associating with. I don't happen to be one, but I am beginning to study. I like them a lot. Maybe you should try pushing away your presumptions of them, and try listening? And if you don't want the literature, don't throw it away. If you ask, they'll put you on a 'do not call' list. But that literature costs money, provided souly by donations, that are not even required, but given out of the goodness of people's hearts. If you don't want a magazine, give it back. But don't be rude. That makes you look like an ignorant loser.
