Is it normal to dislike both of your parents?

I was reading another individual's post and it got me thinking. Is it normal to strongly dislike both your parents? It's not like I had a tormented childhood or anything. I wasn't beaten or raped or anything. I just don't care for who my parents are. My dad collects unemployment and does nothing with his life, and he's a fucking genius. I mean genius. My mother is a 45 year old child who shirks responsibility every chance she gets. I feel guilty for disliking the ones who brought me into this world, but they bother me. I mean i'm 20 so it can't be angst... idk.

And don't get me wrong, I love them both dearly, their life choices just bother me A LOT! Should I not worry about them or what? Is this normal?

Is It Normal?

  • I used to be embarressed of my parents when I was younger. Even your age. I grew out of it They were good to me. I now have my adult kids close to your age. I hate my sons life choices. Most are good but, some of his choices have directly effected me and I used to bail his butt out of trouble. No more. So it goes both ways. My daughter is 4 years older than him and she still hates being out in public with us because she thinks people will think she is a loser to be seen with us. They both love us. So they say. It crushes me though. I'm sorry your parents are like that. It's just not right.

    Peace
