I guess it's normal. Personally I dislike Skrillex because of what he did to my scene. I've been raving for a few years and am friends with all the local DJs and old heads who tell me these amazing stories about what the scene used to be like.
Now, thanks to artists like Skrillex popularizing electronic music, I have to deal with a buncha douchey bros trashing our venues, losing us venues, getting belligerant and getting into fights. I have to deal with stupid little 15 year olds coming to our events, getting way too fucked up and passing out or getting sick or putting themselves in danger and getting our parties shut down. Which is probably leading to way more problems than on the surface.
You get a building full of people drinking and on drugs. People who timed their shit out so they can sober up and drive home at the end of the night. When a party gets shut down all these people are forced to drive before they're ready to do so, which can lead to accidents and deaths on the road.
So I guess when you look at it that way it's not Skrillex but his fans that *really* cheese me off. The scene should have stayed underground.
You've only been raving for a few years and you're talking about your scene? I remember raves being big in the mid 90s so you're just like all the other newcomers to your "underground" scene. Sorry you weren't into the scene before it was cool like everyone else you complain about..
Yes, I am talking about my scene, because I'm sad it was already dying by the time I was old enough to go to events. I'm sorry I was too. I wish I could have been born earlier so I could have seen what raves were like back in the day. :/ You do seem to be misunderstanding me a bit, I'm not complaining about the old heads. They've been my mentors so to speak, I was brought into the scene by good people and have become good friends with the local DJs and promoters.
I'm complaining about people who go get in fights, who don't moderate their drug use, and most of all I'm complaining about young kids being at these events, being exposed to all the temptations without a single notion of moderation or responsibility.
I may be the same age as many newcomers, but are you really going to hold against me the fact that I wasn't born in the right decade for the underground? Seems rather silly does it not? I do not share the attitudes and idiocy they've brought to the world of EDM and I sure as hell don't have to prove myself to some old head who thinks he's better than me simply because of the year he happened to be born in.
This is funny because my older brother was saying something exactly like this yesterday. I've never been to that sort of scene myself but I'm sure it's definitely changed from what it used to be.
Yeah... watered down just like everything else. One party I went to a few years back I spent my first night ever in the bathroom because of some shit a "friend" sold me... wasn't molly, wasn't even drugs. But there was this 17 year old girl in there all night with me, she said this is what she does at every party, just sneaks out of her parents house and ends up spending most of the rave in the bathroom... :/ I tried to talk some sense into her but I don't think it did any good.
It really gets me to see kids fucking themselves up like that. I do indulge a bit myself, but I moderate the hell out of my drinking and drug use and make sure I'm being responsible. Most of my friend group at raves is the same way.
"Now, thanks to artists like Skrillex popularizing electronic music"
It's been really popular since I was a little kid lol.
Skrillex is a recent upstart really. And Skrillex only made something that already sucked, suck alot more.

Umm actually it's always been that way, since the 60's.
None of what you're saying is new in any scene, nor is Skrillex responsible for it.
Is it normal to disagree with hating on Skrillex?
