Yeah it's normal. Every single country is despicable in one way or another. I despise the U.S., the corrupt people who run it, and the people with piss poor attitudes who live in it. But I hear there are a lot worse places than here, so I can't even imagine what it must be like there.
Don't forget that the US has more incarcerated people than ANY other country on earth.
Being older has the distinct disadvantage of remembering the USA as a country I was proud to be from and be a part of. Now I consider it to be a foreign country, one I do not recognize from my youth or my government studies.
I guess all good things must come to an end, but it's a real crime how the American people have allowed themselves to be led into this disasterous mockery of the Constitution and Bill of Rights we were given, upon which to build a fair and equitable country for all.
