A lot of successful artsy people went to university first, because it gives them a different outlook on life. It is best to study something related to doctoring if you want to do it, and that way you have something very good to fall back on if your artsy things don't work out. You would have enough money to take a night class or something in art if you became a doctor. Conversely, if you don't make the grades to become a doctor, at least you still have all the other stuff.
