Is it normal to cry over trolls?

I recently asked a question and immediately got "Are you retarded?" and "this guy must be a troll" But eventually it got so bad I burst out crying. Is it normal to cry over trolls?

Don't let them know they get to you. They'll redouble their efforts. Anything for a reaction.

  • Aww. I'm sorry, we're just evil fuckers here.

  • You probably have a great life if this is your biggest problem right now, chief. Turn off the computer, go for a walk in the park, hug a cockroach (in-joke, don't ask) and be happy with what you have.

I think it's normal to be hurt after someone says something hurtful. I'm sure some people wouldn't do it if they knew what you were feeling, but they can't see the other side of the screen.

Please don't cry over these idiots. If anything I'm disgusted by these people. They have ruined a wonderful site. BUT, there are still wonderful people here. If it's your story, just delete their comment.

Unfortunately, it is becoming a normal trend to cry, and kill onesself, over trolls. People, especially teenagers today, have such a thin skin. Have someone beat you half to death in the middle of the school walkway, THEN come to me and look for sympathy. But honestly, I don't see why people get so upset over "cyberbullies"...personally, I think that is such bullshit.

  • I think it's normal to be sensitive. I got pulled over by a cop yesterday and I felt like a child being scolded and wanted to cry.

yea those are dick things to say and really uncalled for, but crying is just making way too big a deal of it. you don't know these people so what does it matter to you what they think?

Are you serious? Gera life you gag.

  • No not normal. I never saw a troll shed a tear for anyone they insulted so the other way around shouldn't be different.

  • They feast on your tears.

Your best way of combating a troll is by depriving it of attention. They need it like fire needs oxygen.

Just ignore internet trolls. Don't say anything to them, whether it be positive or negative. Leave them alone and they'll leave you alone.

However, if you see a mythical troll, don't ignore it. All it wants is some love :)

You should try and be less sensitive. Thanks to the anonymity offered by the internet, people will say things they would never dream of saying to someone face to face. So you might get harsh responses, or insults, and trolls searching for a reaction. Crying over it suggests you care far too much what these people think. It matters so little.

I worry about this happening, so I am sad to read your post. Some of the comments are so awful! If I were the poster for some of the questions that get criticised i would be in tears too! Please known that about 70% of the people leaving responses are either troublemakers, simply do not care, or are trying hard to be funny... The few that answer honestly (like me) are the only ones that you should listen too. We all need support sometimes. This place disappoints me big time when it comes to this!!

  • Yeah...don't cry about and don't let them know that they got to you. Some trolls smell fear and they pounce on it like dog on dog. But if you come back at them with something clever & rude...they'll shut their mouth. 'Trolling on a troll' is what my friends call it. This also just doesn't go for the internet. If you're finding it hard to handle here, then you really need to be careful in the real world. Let's face it: This is a cruel world with some ignorant assholes.
