Is it normal to constantly have nightmares?

So I'm 17, I dont usually have trouble sleeping but I do get some pretty crazy dreams. I mostly have nightmares and they are always following the same sort of story line, I'm running or hiding and something is coming to kill me. I've never seen what it is that's chasing me but it is very dark and big and when I'm near it I feel deathly scared, I get so scared sometimes in my dreams I will kill myself to escape it. Now, I'm not a bad person. I am very happy and I have many friends and a happy family so I dont know why when I sleep I have such terrifying dreams, I usually wake up feeling scared or depressed or I even cry because they were dark.

They are very realistic I can remember them vividly and sometimes it's hard to tell that I'm even dreaming because it looks so realistic, sometimes I realize I'm dreaming but not often. I've been around the creature that I fear,I've never really seen what it looks like but it hides in people skin suits. I know it's doing it because when I go around said person I get this sinking terrifying feeling. The last dream I had with the creature, it was dressed up as these two old ladies and they tired to kill me but I fought back and when I finally killed them, they turned into dolls and went flat. So I cant kill this creature but it could kill me.

I can remember most of my dreams, they have been like this ever since I was a little baby, always nightmares and me trying to escape from a creature. I know most of you probably dont think this is normal but if anyone else is out there like this or anyone that struggles with bad dreams I would like to hear what it's like for you, I just cant be the only one.

You should seek counseling. Dreams are weird and we don't fully understand them, but trying to figure out the cause of the dreams could help. It could be related to past trauma or some kind of stressor that is currently going on in your life. Try thinking back to when the dreams started and what changed in your life then. Having someone trained to help you guide yourself through the process would help a lot rather than doing it alone though.

Thanks for the advice, I never really thought about talking to it with a counselor or therapist. I will try to think back then but I dont think anything bad could of happened but I'll ask my parents to see if they remember anything. I agree with that, I think I need someone to help me through this because they are progressively getting worse

Yes, even I get nightmares frequently, sometimes daily!! The most common ones are being chased by someone, or getting killed by someone, nowadays, being a witness when murders are happens.. I don't say having nightmares are common, but there are many reasons of why we get nightmares, loneliness, fear are the common ones. These can be avoided to some extent by having someone with you while sleeping, keeping your mind pleasant (I watch some cartoons before sleeping), washing legs with cold water before sleep

I'm sorry that happened to you, that makes a lot of sense. I'm lonely and at night I sometimes have unpleasant thoughts. I sleep with my dog and I feel like he helps me but I think I should go talk to someone because I feel like theres a bunch of underlining problems I need help with. But thank you for the advice, I will try watching cartoons and wash my legs before I sleep. I really appreciate it

I have nightmares that vary between family members suddenly dying, ive had some other crazy ones like being chased by my mom and grandma while i book it up super steep roads. Ive heard that the reason for this is that when we wake up we always look for danger before we get out of bed but then we fall back asleep and dream that its not safe or that we dreamed and then forgot the dream and then we are afriad when we slightly wake up and are nervos that we forgot the dream and then have a nightmare. Its a bit hard to follow but it makes some sence.
