Is it normal to consider "keri" and "carrie" to be two different names?

I was at work, and the people there claimed that "Keri" and "Carrie" were the same name, and were both pronounced the same, but they were just spelled differently.

I, however, consider them to be different names with different pronunciations.
Is that normal?

I too consider them to be different names. I think it has to do with the American accent. Too me "keri" is pronounced "k eh ri" while "carrie" is pronounced "c ah ry".

It's funny how they sound the same in the American accent, they sound completely different from each other in England. In fact I couldn't believe it when I found out that the kid in South Park was called 'Craig' all along. From the way they pronounce it I thought his name was 'Kreg' (even though I'd never heard of that name before).
