Don't do it! I used use a Q-tip to clean my ears and I got really dry ears. I would scratch my ears and flakes of dry skin would come off. Even if I put lotion on my ears the dry skin would still be there. It was so bad.
I learned that if you use a Q-tip it will clean up all the natural oils that coats a thin layer all over your ear. A little bit of the oil goes a long way. So I stopped using a Q-tip and each week the dry skin out better. Now I don't have a problem.
I do live in Alaska where it's cold and the air is dry. So perhaps this contributed to my dry ears.
Is it normal to clean your ears with Q-tips?
