It's normal, but you're not really supposed to. You can damage your ear drum that way. Q-tips also tend to push some of the earwax further in, and it clumps together and goes hard so eventually you have to go to the doctor and get it washed out. You're not supposed to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.

But everybody does it anyway. It feels so good.
