I understand what you mean, I have a story quite simular to this aswell but with different catagories of the social groups. The best thing to do is go your own way, why be jut one social genre when you can be more than just one of them? Or you could perhaps be none of them?
Best way I can describe this is that if you don't have a place then you either join someone elses box or you make your own private box with one way windows so that you can see everyone and even join in with them but they can't see you.
