  • The World Health Organisation advocates breastfeeding up until 2, last I heard.

    Personally, I couldn't.

One of my cousins breastfed til almost 4. He didn't particularly want to, his mother just wanted to feel like he was still her baby. I find that fucked up and creepy.

Another of my cousins breastfed til 2.5 I think. Her mum wanted to stop but Boo was traumatised by the attempts, so it took longer than usual. She needed the comfort and emotional connection. I wouldn't want to do it that long myself, but I do think it's important to be guided by the child to a degree.

I'm not an advocate for breastfeeding past toddlerhood, really. But I think when weaning, it's best to go with the kid, and work towards moving them off it, without distressing them.

It's really hard to say where the line is drawn in my eyes, it's all so individual. But there is a point where it's just ew. Two is probably ok but getting old.
