Is it normal to break down into sobs when laughing really hard?

Sometimes when I'm really happy, and I'm laughing so hard I cry, it's not normal tears. My laughter turns into sobbing and suddenly everyone's convinced something happened to me, when we were all just having a good moment.
My sister and I were having a great time hanging out with our Mom, and we were laughing. Suddenly, the waterworks turn on and I can't catch my breath I'm sobbing so hard. What is WRONG with me???

    Hell yeah. I don’t do it often. But sometimes the dumbest shit with make me laugh so hard I cry.

    Laughter is weird. Your progression to uncontrollable sobbing is unusually extreme, but I'm sure it's not unique.

    Maybe the best thing you can do is be aware of the sensations that you experience when you're heading in that direction, and just leave the room before it happens. I'm sure people who know you well would understand, and it's easy enough to explain to strangers after the event.

    I'm sure what happens to you is embarrassing, but it's not as bad as what can happen. There have been well-documented cases of people who have literally died of laughter. If it goes on too long, the muscle spasms and and compression in your thorax can cause a cardiac arrest, or you can die of asphyxiation because your lungs aren't working correctly.

    When I laugh really hard I start coughing, and choking then I usually almost vomit. It's fun for the whole family!
