Is it normal to bite yourself out of frustration?

  • It's still self-harm, it's just a different form. There are different stages of sh, from pinching, punching walls and bruising, to cutting and burning, to even breaking bones. While biting may not seem as extreme, it could worsen since it means you see pain as a way of controlling emotions. I don't know, if you think it's something you would benifit from, see a counsellor. That's never worked for me. I think a good way to stop is to become aware of your sh, notice when you're doing it, why you're doing, then it stops being an unconcious mechanism and you can learn to avoid situations that make you feel you need to do that, and if you can't avoid them try to deal with stress in another way, maybe write your feelings or tear up paper or just shout.
