Is it normal to believe that whatever you repeatedly think becomes....

...your reality? I often thought growing up that affirmations were actually useless in manifesting the sort of circumstances that one has. I believed in reckless fate. After learning the hard way, however, I now believe that if you constantly fixate on negative thoughts and outcomes; that you will bring these things upon yourself. Conversely, if you constantly concentrate on positive things and carry out positive actions; that you will create a favorable outcome for yourself. What do you think? Is it normal to believe that each individual shapes their own reality, versus external factors determining their fate?

  • This reminds me of those theories that were quite popular a couple of years ago; the Law of Attraction and Cosmic Ordering. Have you heard of these or read the books? I found some of them uplifting in the short term and some little more than expressions of wishful thinking.
Still, there's definitely a lot to be said for a positive attitude. It would make you more willing to try out new things and be more persistent and then maybe one of these things turns out to be very fulfilling. If you come across as enthusiastic, ppl in turn will respond to you more positively as well.
What I find hard, personally, is to get out of negative thought patterns. The formula "Think positively" by itself does not work for me.
Would you mind sharing what you did to transform your way of thinking?

    • it is still popular
it might have outlived those who were not serious about it.
we are magnetic, we are so complex science is not even close to understanding how much we can control and do with our mind.
We control and manifest everything that happens to us daily.

    • HI. It's a journey that I will be on until the day I die...skirting negative thought patterns and choosing love and positivity instead. I truly believe it is the only reason a human being exists..to do this work.

I recently purchased Pema Chodron's The Places That Scare Us. I am really enjoying it and finding some useful insights about finding joy.

  • Of course. You can't let anybody tell you what rules you have to follow in life all the time. You have the right to use your mind and don't let that right be taken away from you. Smiles.

I write with my left hand all the time for emotionally and spiritually guidance(Affirmations) to help combat my life difficulties and it works. It helps excercise my mind when it's dark and cloudy..

  • I actually helped my best friend with this. He had been depressed his whole life (for valid reasons) until I told him to stop wasting his time and just be happy. I told him to JUST make himself happy. A few days later I got a text and he said he was no longer suicidal at all and no longer feeling sorry for himself. He was actually really happy and he thanked me for it. I felt very happy about this. It's been almost a year and he hasn't been depressed since. :) So it is normal and if you know how to do it, you can switch your mind on and off from happy to sad easily. Where there's a will, there's a way. :)

    • Diet and medication can also hugely effect our moods. Is your friend still sticking with their resolution to be happy?

      • I moved and hadn't seem him for 6 months until last week and I'm happy to say, he's still as happy as can be. He has psychological disorders because of childhood trauma and a near death experience and it used to be hard to control his moods but not anymore.

  • Reminds me of something I saw once called "the law of attraction" it has worked for me in many situations so in a way I find it really works.
