I was told that carrots scream when they are pulled from the ground. Do you believe that vegetables are sentient and can feel pain?
If that's true then what does that make farmers?
Some kind of sick tormentor of vegetables who harvests their souls to be ground into the stomachs of us evil giants?
I don't believe they can feel pain, and even if they could we need to eat somehow. :/
Human survival requires the consumption of life and therefore the death of some lifeform, whether it be plant or animal,so even if vegetables could perceive pain,well,fuck em.
There is a cycle/process to everything in life. There'll be an overpopulation in almost everything on earth if we do not feed on one another. So don't feel bad.
As stated by many other comments, plants do experience pain, to be specific, damage. They just aren't aware that we feel it. It's like a human with a heavy dose of painkiller. We actually are physically hurt, the brain/general system just doesn't respond with an, "Ow I hurt." More like, "Ah, I'm injured."
They dont really need to, being eaten is a part of how they reproduce right?
They don't have nerves. They don't have any type of system that would allow for "pain". They might be aware of damage but they wouldn't call it pain. Plus, by the time you eat them, they're on their last leg.

The notion of plant sentience is a creepy one, for certain. I like to eat vegetables and this conjecture is putting a damper on my enjoyment of salads!
There is pain, and there is having a consciousness to be aware of that pain. I believe plants have pain, but that they're unaware of it.
