Is it normal to believe that religious people know religion is false

I think a lot of religious people are religious because they're scared. They're scared at the thought of dying and not existing like everything else on this planet, so they make religion to make themselves feel special, to say that humans get to go to an afterlife. I believe in a God, I don't claim to know who or what it is, but I don't think humanity is special. If there is an afterlife and we have souls or some energy that carries on to that afterlife, it exists in all living creatures.
