You don't have to be gay to be shallow. I'm pretty successful in that (according to my ex's), and I'm straight.
On the other hand I've met a few gay guys in my life that weren't very "fabulous", so it's not all of them.
However, someone said it above ^ -it's an ongoing trend, with designer clothing, parties. and the stupid make-up trend for gay guys. It's constantly fueled by media and, obviously the retail industry. So maybe it'll pass.
