Is it normal to believe love is a choice?

In every relationship I've been in, I've found that there was always an opportune moment to choose to love the person I am/was with. I'm in a relationship that's coming up to our 3 year mark, and I've always known that it was a choice to love him. But, Hollywood makes love seem so uncontrollable. Is it normal to believe that love is a choice?

  • Love can be either a choice or it can work like it does in romance films. I've been in relationships where I decide that I love somebody because I've known them for so long. However, in my current relationship we both knew on the inside the minute we met. I couldn't get her out of my head for days on end. When we finally went on a date and had our first kiss... it was like no first kiss I've ever had before. I fell madly in love like in a kids movie and so did she. There is somebody out there for everyone, you just have to go out of your way to break out of your normal patterns and meet new people. When you know, you know.

  • No, I find that it is easy to fall in love with someone. The trick for me is choosing not to. Finding every flaw in them I can so that I can't fall for them.

  • I'm not asking whether it's possible to learn to love someone. I'm asking if it's normal to believe that it's impossible to "fall" in love with someone without choosing to.
