Is it normal to become friends with your teacher after graduating?

I contacted him a year after I graduated. We text each other regularly (friendly). He told me I was different and smarter than the other students in my class. I know I was one of his two favorites (he told me and the other one that once). We tell each other about our lives, interests etc. He’s told me about his ex and his kids too. How he met her.. About one of his kids’ illness and how they’re doing. So quite personal things. Are we normal or is it kind of weird that we’re becoming friends? I haven’t told any of my former classmates cause I’m worried they’d judge since they didn’t like him (because of his outspokenness etc).

    This is normal. having a friendship with someone you admire is a normal thing to experience. As long as nobody oversteps any boundaries than everything should be a okay.

    It is normal. I'm friends with 6 of my former professors/teachers. We get together and even go on day trips to DC, etc.

    Have you ever read the book Tuesdays with Morrie? Great read and gives you insight into just how profound these friendships are.

      I’m 20, he’s 52. But it’s not noticeable while we talk. He’s not being romantic in any way.

    Maybe a bit weird that he chooses to share so much so fast, but it's normal to become friends with your teachers. They're people too!
