Food won't make you fat if you are actually using the energy you put into it. Food is medicine, it gives us life. You are what you eat, literally.
Diet isn't about starving yourself- it is about consuming the vitamins and minerals you need to make your body function, it wants to be healthy.
Keep that food journal again but ignore the calories. Count the protein/carb/fat ratio. Shoot for 40/30/30. Obtain the food in whole form, not processed. Eat complex carbs (whole wheat, oats, fruits, vegetables, nuts) not simple (like bagels). Nuts are amazing foods that fall into all three categories.
