Is it normal to be wet and horny after zoloft withdrawal?

Hello,
First, guys please don't post about "getting hard" when reading this, it is gross and disrespectful (I don't need to be thinking about you getting hard about me being horny).

Second, my background info to the question:
-I am 24
-I am going off Zoloft
-I'm Christian
-I don't watch porn/fantasize while masturbating
-just started masturbating a week ago hoping it would help the annoying feelings in my V go away

I recently became really horny/wet/tickly "down there" about a week after going of Zoloft which I've been taking since I was 15 ( anywhere from 100-250 mg for anxiety disorder).

I have had no other symptoms relating to withdrawal. Is this normal?

Also, is it normal after starting to masturbate to be wet (clear discharge) all day following masturbation?

Please help!

Is It Normal?

  • Zoloft messes up your libido, which it's been suppressing for all those years. Didn't you realise this was an almost universal negative effect of this medication?

Just be glad your libido is returning to normal and enjoy yourself doing what comes naturally.

The clear discharge is normal vaginal secretion, don't worry about it and have fun

  • I don't know anything about Zoloft, but the sexual feelings sound totally normal, except of course you're experiencing them for the first time at a much later age that most people. Presumably they will get easier to manage as you get used to it, just as it does for people who first experience it in their teens.

  • Zoloft inhibits your libido so what you're experiencing is your body gaining back it's natural, unsupressed state of arousal. I was taking 200mg of Zoloft a day for about two years for my depression and anxiety, and two months ago I started to wean myself off of it.

Before, when I taking it, I was practically numb down there. Like, sex didn't feel good at all. It just felt like I do normally except with a penis going in and out of me. No arousal, no intimacy, nothing. It was really crappy.

Now I'm completely off the Zoloft and I experienced much of what you described. I get aroused and lubricated so much easier now and sex is incredibly enjoyable. Masturbation definitely helps with the urges though.

  • Thanks for the message, Ellenna. I didn't really realize because I started taking Zoloft when I was 14 or 15 (not sexually active due or minded at all). My doctor and mom skipped that part of the instructions. I also didn't know about female masturbation until I was 17 or 18 and thought the parts about libido side-effects were only for men taking Zoloft. My mom had asked me when I was 21 if I was OK since I still didn't have any sex drive (she mentioned Zoloft might be causing it). The horny-ness has been rather sudden since I only stopped taking Zoloft because I ran out of the medication. I think I'll ask for a lower dose due to not having panic attacks anymore/obvious sex-drive issues. ;)

  • I have to say, anytime I've come off of an antidepressant, I have been super horny. Antidepressants just kill your libido. So what you're experiencing is that libido coming back. Again, I'm a nurse. And I have experienced this myself.

  • very normal. a side effect of zoloft is a loss of sexual interest, so a lot of it will come rushing back fast.

  • When I was on Zoloft I lost all interest in sex, but once I got off it.. Yeah, I how you must feel.
