The problem is that when you were singled out and bullied as a child you later became a bully instead of standing up to the bullies from the get go.
I actually did often stand up to my bullies and defend myself, however the primary school I was going to was corrupt and the teachers would often punish me for fighting back and forced me to apologize to my abusers.
That sucks, I'm sorry that happened to you!
