  • I hate to say it, but I've been around 40 years now in exactly the same boat. It doesn't pass. At least no way I've found. Lots of exercise is probably the closest I've come to overcoming my complete lack of motivation but I eventually lost the motivation to do that. I suspect you're a victim of the notion "minimum effort, maximum gains". It is unfortunate but being intelligent poses it's own risks. If you are smart enough to get by in school without much effort the challenges become minimal and the effort required to overcome them is minimal so you become conditioned to put in minimal effort. My best suggestion is look for things that truly challenge you. For me I like math, soduku, and puzzles in general, that's probably why I became a computer programmer. Always something new needed and new puzzles everyday to suck me into my work.

    Well best of luck, I hope you are young enough to not be completly set in your ways :)
