Is it normal to be this obsessed with pokemon?

I bought my first Pokemon game in 2007 when I was 7 years old, and since then I've been addicted to Pokemon (I am now 18 years old). I play the games over and over again, and spend around 200+ hours on each game before I move onto the next and restart the games again and again. I bought the latest Pokemon National Pokedex book the other day with 802 pages filled with the tiniest writing of Pokemon data. I watch the anime until the early hours of the morning and you can't see my wallpaper because of the amount of posters and pokemon magazine cut outs I have pinned up. I wear Pokemon clothes and have thousands of Pokemon cards in several languages even though I don't understand some of the languages. Is this normal or is it really obsessive? BTW I have Autistic traits and I've been told that my obsession could be a symptom of this?

As long as you continue to carry out your responsibilities like going to school/work, personal hygiene, cleaning your room, not neglecting your friends/family, etc. then there's no problem with it.

I don't see it as a problem. Though the only way to tell if it's a problem is if your love of Pokèmon gets in the way of working, eating, sleeping, education, forming relationships, or just about anything that requires you to function in life. Since you're only 18, the age where a person starts discovering their independence, there's no way to find out just yet.

Same here. I was obsessed with pokemon silver as a child and memorized all the cries by playing them in the pokedex all the time. Nowadays pretty much the only reason I go out is to hatch eggs in pokemon go.

    • I know what you mean! I love everything to do with Pokemon. My family say it's way too obsessive and that it's "sad" and "childish" but I think it's amazing.
I'm glad I'm not the only one, then. That makes me feel a little better!
(Pokemon silver is one of the best games...just sayin'! And Pokemon Soulsilver! I love the Pokewalker so much)

I am slightly worried about the amount of time you're investing in it, although having autistic traits would go a long way in explaining this. Anyways, just remember to enjoy life with all its diversity. As for your parents, they should be support no matter what you do in life. They call you childish and stuff but at heart they really care about you a lot so try to understand how it is for them too. Peace
