tgatz you are totally on the wrong site!
Original poster, a couple of different thoughts here. First off, I think starting on a major exercise program is too intimidating initially. But, even for your health sake, get outside and walk. Doesn't matter how fast or far. Just get moving. Start doing that every day. Feel the crispness of the air, enjoy nature. Walking is one of the best exercises there is. Great to clear the mind too. Make time for this. Start to walk a bit faster and farther each day. I promise you, if you go every day for a week your body will start to look forward to it. Feel good about yourself that you are taking the first step and let that feeling spur you onward. So, use walking as your cardio to get the old heart pumping.
Then check out the Callanetics website, and then google before and after pictures and any blog or review you can find on it. You will see that people rave about it. I have the original dvd one and it is just as good as any of them. Be warned as it is 70s style hair and clothing, but it is the fastest results from exercise I have ever seen. Just do your best to do the exercises the way she says, and don't worry if you can't initially. It will come! It is a body shaping method. Results will start to show quite soon.
What got me going and motivated was I took before pictures of myself. Do this. Do this in a swimsuit or something. It will motivate you like nothing else.
(T Tapp is another good exercise, but Callanetics is better.)
Not sure what kind of diet you think would work for you. Pick one you think will be the easiest to stick with.
I will write some down here and you can google them if you want. But whatever diet you choose, write down a menu plan so you know what to buy from the grocery store and take all the junk food out so it is not there to tempt. (heard that on Opera.)
There is the hcg diet, and it is very strict but effective. This is the one I used to get down 20 pounds.
Atkins, this is the one for the last 15. This one is extremely effective. Check out peoples blogs for recipes and foods like even munchies etc. This is the way that I now stay thin. Stevia will be your new best friend. Find creative ideas. Read the book or google the guidelines.
Weight watchers I have no experience with, but tons of folks have gotten great results from it.
Well, there are more but this is a very long post so I better stop with the diets here.
Drink oolong tea. Can get it most places, but if not you can always pick it up in Asian Markets for quite cheap. If you like, you can add a few drop of stevia to it. Google Oolong tea and weight loss. Drink this 15 minutes before a meal if you can, if not then at least during or shortly after. This will lower the blood sugar inpact of your meal. Great addition to any diet. I love it and it is cheaper than any diet pill and very good for you. This will also give you an energy boost and mental clarity. Great for before any cardio! Put it in the fridge and drink as icetea if you want.
Sorry this is so long, but I do care about what
you are going through. I would be thrilled if you found any help in this.
(One more thing. This is what I did after my last child. I went for the rolfing series massage. This massage is unlike any other in that it actually reshapes your body and gives you a slimmer taller appearance. Google too if you want. Words can't say enough about it.
It can be a bit pricey though.)
I have tried a ton of things, both exercise and dietwise. The above is what I have come to find really works for me. This is what I have told all my friends.
Taking a before picture is extremely important to getting the motivation. Take pics through out your progress. Put initial picture where only you can see it. Look at it often. Especially when you feel like giving up and munching on junk. You can do this. I am writing this because I feel from your post you really want to.
Start walking.
Callanetics (as good if not better than weightlifting)
Atkins or something as effective
