It might be the norm, but it's certainly not good. Tolerance is very important in our society. You are only seeing things from your own perspective which is unfair considering not everyone has the same opportunities that you do. I agree that some people make excuses for themselves, but I often find that people with few struggles in their lives often have little tolerance for those who have many struggles. I was looked down on for being poor, dropping out of college, getting married at 19 and having a baby at 20. I made some mistakes, but people literally treated me like they were better for me because their circumstances were better. Well, guess what? I finished college, my husband and I are still together, my two children are happy and healthy, and I have a great and promising career. Now, I'm not poor anymore and my circumstances are better, but I certainly never judge anyone for being poor, not finishing school, or having tough circumstances. It's not fair. Some people make poor choices, some people have parents that don't love them, some people have no money, some people have deaths in their families, etc. etc. You don't have any right to deem yourself better than anyone else because you don't know what someone else is going through until you've walked in their shoes. I would suggest taking a step out of yourself and quit living in your own world. You are priveleged and as such you have a social responsibility to reach out to those who are less fortunate and extend your help.
Is it normal to be superficial?
