He sounds like he has traits of Borderline Personality Disorder (unstable relationships, manipulation, suicidal ideation, neediness, absent self actualization). Your relationship sounds unhealthy, he is using the suicidal ideation to manipulate you into staying around. I don't think he is capable of having a healthy relationship with anybody at this point. I don't think he truly respects, you, the other girl, or himself.
