Is it normal to be socially awkward as an adult ?

  • I mean, does the person in question want to be more social? Unless this is a classic case where asking about a friend is really asking about yourself, are you sure that your friend just isn't introverted? Some people are engergized by hanging out with people, it drains others. Unless she's asked for help, maybe don't harass your friend about it? Of course, if you're asking about yourself really, and you're clearly not happy about it, then I would say some sort of coaching perhaps, like bugsforbreakfast said? If it helps, just remember that the people you are interacting with awkwardly and that are causing you so much distress are at least as goofy and foolish as you. More so, because they don't even seem to have the good sense to be aware of their foolishness. If you develop, or at least project a healthy 'so what' attitude, you will find yourself at least acting more confident, which can pass for not awkward most days.
