Often times being that afraid of things that fall into the less believable or paranormal category can be a substitute for things your subconcious is really afraid of. When we have nebulous fears our minds rush to fill in the blanks with whatever is nearby - rational or not. Not feeling safe in your home or in your bed could be related to another different or burried fear - or could be just too many scary movies or books.
Trust yourself listen to your fears and face them down - only by taking them out into the light and examining them closely will you be able to tell if it is a reasonable fear or not - forget about the normal for this one.
