I'm alone in my music taste too, I've gotten my brother to listen to a couple of bands but he is visually pained by most of the band's I play him
He called my bloody Valentine discordant white noise :/
My mom used to call the stuff I used to listen to years ago (Tori Amos, Sugar Cubes, Björk, Cocteau Twins, ect) Phoebe music. i.e. Friends' Phoebe. She also did a hilarious impression of it.

Hah, yeah, she's pretty funny :)
