Well, it's like the Egyptians. They clearly didn't find it awkward and it didn't appear to be taboo. I wonder if there was ever a member of the royal family, that wanted to marry outside of the family. I can't imagine the reaction...
Then if you look at greek mythos, everyone was constantly fucking each other. The only seemingly normal ones were Leto, Athena, and Persephone.
If I'm getting this right:
Posiden tried to get it on with Leto, but she managed to escape.
Persephone, was kidnapped by Hades who reason for this act was for her beauty. She didn't want to be with him and I think he was he was her uncle... So he cunningly forces her to eat food from the underworld, so he can force her to spend part of the year with him....
Athena was the Goddess of wisdom. I don't think she ever fell prey to her relatives or anyone else for that matter....
I guess this was a natural custom back then, but now things have gone in reverse.... It's curious how things change over time.
Good point. I enjoyed learning a bit of history from you. It really is all about society, and "normal" is constantly evolving over time. There are still countries today however, who think your cousin is always the best match for you.
And even scientifically, it is alright. While birth defects may be 1-2% higher, you also have a higher chance of having a smart kid (if you both have the smart gene) or a healthy kid (if you both happen to be really healthy.) The thing is gene build up, two bad genes add up, and make a defective child, but two good genes can also add up and make an exceptional child. Therefore, I think anything closer than 1st cousins is NOT a good thing, but 1st cousins and onwards is fine. No offense, but most people who would want to disagree with me are simply ignorant.
Is it normal to be sexually atracted to your cousin.
