I don't think you did anything wrong, except for being part of JH (rumors and hearsay travel like wild fire in JH) I agree with suckonthis9, all you can do is tell her you were wrong, and give her time to get over it. Try discouraging your friends when you hear them make fun of her, its a hard thing to do but it will help more than you know.
P.S. The fact that you care that much about the feelings of a person you hardly know says a lot about what type of person you are. Most people wouldn't care at all about that girls feelings, you should be proud of yourself.
