Is it normal to be preoccupied with the arctic?

Im a 26 year old woman living in upstate New York. For the past couple years I feel tremendously drawn to the Arctic tundra. (N. Canada, Siberia, etc) My walls are decorated with pictures of Polar Bears. I even have a Polar Bear shower curtain. I have dozens of books and films about Arctic Wildlife. I dream of being in Igloos with Inuit Indians and watching the Northern Lights. I crave these images in my mind and they're the only thing that soothes me. This is all an obsession that suddenly came over me a couple years ago. Is this bizzarre ? or am I just a nature geek? Do I have an obsessive mind?

Is It Normal?

  • Me too. I've been obsessed with the poles (and polar exploration) for as long as I can remember. If you've never read Endurance, by Alfred Lansing, it's probably worth a try. One of the most incredible accounts I've ever read.

  • I think this makes you pretty cool. Hope you get there someday so you can live your dreams.

  • Love the shower curtain lol. Me personally I would love to work/live on the antarctic. Very little people actually get too though. My friends however all find that a terrible prospect. They would want to visit the antarctic, see it in real life, but don't see how i would wanna live there, confined to pockets of man made heated and "hospitable" climate and only able to go outside with serious protection against the climate/cold.
I just think it seems like an awsome way to spend a part of my life :P

  • Stat far away from real polar bears. If it!s not interfering with other important parts of your life and you can afford it go ahead and plan a week or two up there.
