  • I've noticed that autistic people have more trouble getting respect from other people than down syndrome people. With down syndrome, it's obvious that they're handicapped and most people make it a point to try to understand them and treat them nicely and patiently. But with the autistic, half the time, they seem fairly normal, then sometimes they don't, and it kinda leaves people thinking WTF!? High functioning autistic people can drive a car, hold a job and take care of themselves but then show these quirks in their behavior or things they say or do that make people think that what they're doing is more deliberate than it is, it confuses people, and sometimes brings on not very nice treatment from some. I've noticed this because I'm high functioning autistic.
