Easy to treat the mentally ill like a petting zoo when it's a distant novelty. The do-gooders should try living with them, get embarrassed by them, make personal sacrifices to accomodate them and then see if they feel the same.
Most people have mental illnesses, but since most of them haven't been officially labeled as down syndrome or autistic, they get let off the hook and continue being respected by mainstream society.

I'm diagnosed with autism and do not give a shit about mainstream society. If someone doesn't show me respect I have no reason to show them any.

I've been considered it. As far as I am concerned, it doesn't affect my life or really inhibit me in any way at all.
So am I. That's how I've learned how many people don't understand or respect us.
